The retirement age in Australia is already scheduled to rise from 65 to 67 by 2023. Yet we find that more than a quarter of Australians aged 50 years and over have experienced some form of age discrimination in the last two years.

The Australian Human Rights Commission have released their findings on the “Age discrimination survey” commissioned by Susan Ryan, Age Discrimination Commissioner.

Ms Ryan makes a great point that it affects all of us: “ “The financial and emotional results of
discrimination impact on the human rights and fulfilment of older Australians. As every one of us is ageing, unfair age barriers can affect all of us. It is a challenge for our entire society”
