Central Coast Safety Group meeting on 17th April 2019
We had a great turn out today (16/4/2019) at the Central Coast Safety Group meeting at Somersby
John Rodney from K&L Gates provided us with a 5- minute legal update. He advised us that public interest is now demanding severe sanctions for WHS Breaches and there are clear intentions by the regulator to increase penalties. John spoke about three cases, two of which had their fines increased from $75K initially to $375K and $300K initially to $600K.
Rob Sams from Lifeline presentation was on Social Sensemaking and had us all actively involved. Thank you Rob for a wonderful presentation. He spoke about how we make sense of risk, how people make decisions and judgements. He spoke about asking the question “what can go wrong” encourages critical thinking
Sharnie Everton from LIfeSpan spoke about QPR for Business . This is a free online 1 hour training module on suicide prevention for business in the Central Coast. QPR stands for Question, Persuade & Refer. It gives the user the confidence to identify when someone may be struggling, how to question that person and how to refer someone to get the right help to start their recovery journey. Sharnie also provided the link to the Newcastle site’s QPR, it can be accessed online via the Primary Health Network’s website (you need to enter your postcode in to access the training) https://www.hneccphn.com.au/qpr/
