Fraudulent Workers Compensation Claim

SIRA (NSW Government State Insurance Regulatory Authority) was successful in prosecuting a 33 year old male offender who made a fraudulent workers compensation claim that cost the system $90,764.

In 2011, the offender claimed to have injured his wrist, shoulder and neck in a fall at a workplace, however it was later found the offender was not employed by the business and the injury never occurred.

The man was sentenced to a suspended 15-month prison term and ordered to pay back the total amount defrauded as well as the prosecutor’s costs of $11,500.
