Central Coast Safety Group meeting held on 19th June 2019

Minutes of Central Coast Safety Group meeting on 19th June 2019

We had the privilege of hearing from  Natalie Hunt from Mates in Construction(MIC)  at the June  Central Coast Safety Group meeting . MIC is a charity established in 2008 to reduce the high level of suicide among Australian construction workers but is relevant to all industries.  Natalie provided information , statistics and gave a  number of examples of based upon her life experiences.

Personally, I was shocked and saddened to learn in 2017 there were 3,128 suicides reported across Australia i.e. average 8 people a day. These people are from all walks of life, various ages and work in different industries. When you realise the road toll in the same period was 1400 one can see we have an enormous problem.

Natalie explained that while MIC have been funded by the construction industries they have been trialing a similar project in the Energy sector in Qld. This will be available in NSW in the near future and hopefully the Mining and Logistics industries will also get on board soon.

Thank you Natalie for the work and support  you and the team provide.
