OHS CONSULTATION TRAINING
As you would be aware, NSW commenced the new Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act on 1 January 2012.
New training arrangements are required to accommodate the training that health and safety representatives (who replace OHS representatives) are entitled to. The intention is for there to be nationally consistent training arrangements but at the moment a national model is still pending.
Therefore WorkCover intends to implement some transitional training arrangements until such time as a national training model may be adopted by all jurisdictions.
The transitional arrangements being proposed for NSW include:
an approval mechanism for existing providers (both RTOs and individual trainers) of the WorkCover OHS Consultation course upon completion of a short application,
the development of a gap training course for OHS representatives and committee members elected under the OHS Act and who become health and safety representative under the new Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act,
the development of a five day initial training course for newly elected health and safety representative.
More information on the content of the courses etc. will be coming from WorkCover very soon.
