Vibration Exposure Management

Workers can be exposed to harmful vibration levels during the operation of power tools, machinery, vehicles and from other workplace sources. Exposure to whole-body vibration is associated with back pain while hand-arm vibration can affect circulation and joints.

The current Australian Standard for whole-body vibration (AS 2670-2001) is a major improvement to the previous standard because it takes into account exposure to damaging jolts and jars. It is important for companies to comply with the latest Australian Standard and we can help you achieve this goal.

Our principal consultant is recognised as a leading expert in vibration exposure assessment and management in Australia with more than 10 years of experience in this field. He is co-author of the publication ‘Bad Vibrations’, which was produced for the NSW Joint Coal Board and was the result of the largest survey of vibration exposures undertaken in the Australian mining industry using the new Standard. Our consultants have conducted many vibration exposure assessments throughout Australia.

We can provide you with vibration exposure management services on any scale to help your company achieve compliance with the new Australian Standard. Our vibration exposure surveys are tailored to suit your company’s needs and are conducted in an efficient and well organised manner with clearly written reports that can be understood by management and workers.

Vibration sources posing a risk to worker’s health can be identified and a vibration management program can be set up. Vibration exposure can be reduced using a range of methods. Our recommendations do not just stop at seat design but include changes to work practices that can both reduce vibration exposure and improve productivity.

We can provide you with an extensive range of control options. In addition we can provide customised training packages to workers and management.

We have provided training in vibration for large companies including BHP and Rio Tinto as well as for the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists.

As an option, a noise exposure survey can be conducted concurrently with the vibration assessment saving time and costs.
